Epic Fail in the Craftiness Department

So remember a few days ago when I posted about my wonderful day of crafting?

Well we attempted to have another day of amazing craftyiness today.
And let me just say it was a fail of EPIC proportions.

I said last post that our lovely canvases with the Disney lyrics were not finished just yet.  They needed a
little something else to make them really pop.

Well, Suanne and I decided that something extra would be to outline the letters with brown paint
(special thanks to Megan from Mackey Madness for her thoughts, we took your idea and ran with it!)

then we thought we would Mod Podge the entire thing to give a little glossy look.

Off to Michaels we go.

We return with some brown Sharpie paint pens (they're awesome btw)
and some Mod Podge.  Now while we were at Michaels and looking at the Mod Podge we thought it would add a little somethin somethin if we got gold shimmer Mod Podge.

So to make a long story short, we get home, outline all 9 canvases and Suz starts to Mod Podge them.

I ask, "Why is it so gold?"
Suz says, "Oh it'll dry clear no worries. It just needs to actually dry."

(20 or so minutes later)

All 9 canvases are not a pretty shimmery color we thought they would be once they dried.
All 9 canvases are now this really ugly shimmery GOLD color that is completely uneven and barely shows ANY of the lettering we spent all day stamping Disney lyrics on.

We now have a set of canvases that in no way, shape or form can be put on a wall in our living room.

So yeah....that is where we are at in the craftiness department at this point.  Totally disappointed in our crafty skills.  We've both realized that art is HARD.

I would post pictures, but they would just hurt everyone's eyes, they are so horrible.

Bright side to the story:
I  think I've come up with a way to salvage the canvases.

And I will only write about it if they are a success and come out AMAZING!

I hope you're crafty projects turn out better than ours did and if not please let me know so I'm not the only one who thinks being crafty is hard work! :)

Happy 4th of July!

Wishing you and yours a very happy 4th of July!

Everyone should go:

-eat some hotdogs
-watch/set off some fireworks
-thank those who serve in our military to maintain our freedom
-wear red, white, and blue ALL DAY LONG
-watch some baseball
and of course
-spend time with family and friends!

This lovely 4th of July I will be spending the day with this guy:
(and by spending time I really mean working)

.  YAY! But afterwards I'll be sticking around EPCOT to watch some awesome possum FIREWORKS!
Because if anyone knows how to do 4th of July celebrations right, its Disney.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

God Bless AMERICA!!

Mad About the Plaid

First I'd like to share some pictures:

YAY!! I finally had my first day in costume at EPCOT!  I was super nervous because I was being trained in the DRC room.  (Not too sure what DRC stands for) But it basically is just a phone room.  Where we make dining reservations for guests.

So if you ever call Disney Dining and you hear this:

"Thank you for calling Disney Dining, this is LANA ROSE, how may I help you?"

That's ME! :)

I also got a tad bit of experience in our Lobby where I saw a family from Texas! One of their kids even had a Texas State shirt on.

And I may for may not have gotten ridiculously excited and yelled,
 "GO BOBCATS"

It was awesome.

Craftiness at its Best

Last Sunday both Suzanne and I had off from work.  So we decided it would be the perfect day to have a craft day.  We wanted to do something for our bare walls.  Suz had the idea to paint some canvases and write favorite quotes on them.  Well then we were brainstorming and we thought it would be a good idea to put lines from Disney songs on them!

Once we had that brilliant idea we needed to get supplies!

So we headed to Michaels! Now I feel like I should mention that I have never been to a Michaels.  I'm sure we have them in Texas but I've never actually seen/been to one.  Not only that but sadly the closest Hobby Lobby (which I love and adore) is 30 minutes away! Yeah, I know, its terrible.

At Michaels we purchased:
 5 canvases for $20
1 big canvas (for half off! WIN)
Paint in a pink, orange, coral and light brown (those colors match our couch)
Paint brushes

We then spent the next  8 HOURS, yes I said 8 HOURS, first painting the canvases a light brown color, then we used stencil letters to stencil our lyrics on in the different colors.

Which Disney movies did we?

-Robin Hood
-The Jungle Book
-Pocahontas
-Peter Pan
-Mary Poppins
-Meet the Robinsons
-Aladdin
-The Fox and the Hound
-The Lion King
-The Hunchback of Notre Dame
-Hercules

and last but most certainly not least.............

-TANGLED (this one hasn't actually been made yet, because we're using the big canvas and
unfortunately neither Suz nor I are very artistically inclined. So this one had been temporarily put on hold.)

Funny side note: We had attempted to start the big canvas but then we realized that the D on the stencil we were using was backwards. We both almost started crying because we had been working on these things ALL DAY and the others were so easy and this one was huge! In hindsight though it was pretty funny. Though I'm pretty sure Suzanne will disagree.

Now before I share what we did in pictures, I have to mention that they are not finished.  We still have to dress them up some to make them really pop and be super cute/fun!

Our canvases painted a lovely light brown color.
(Which looks like cardboard on our super white walls. FAIL)

Paint, stencils, scissors, and paint brushes that were used.

We love crafts!

Yep that is wine on the table. By hour 4 we needed a drink!

Finished products!

This is where we realized the light brown might not have been a good idea.  Neither was using hot pink and orange paint.  You can barely read it. BLAH!  Oh well live and learn.

This is our favorite.  Oh and those super pretty key holders were made for us.
Thank you Stumleupon.com

Again, they are not yet finished.  As I mentioned on those white walls the light brown looks a little like cardboard AND you can barely see the pink and orange lettering.  But we will be spicing them up a bit in the coming weeks.

We had a blast talking, sipping pink wine, giggling, and going slightly delirious from looking at the same colors for 8 hours straight.

Mad about the Plaid!

I've now had two days of training in Guest Relations.

Days 1 and 2 were just basic overview of all that Guest Relations can do.  We'll be getting more training over the next two weeks.  But I cannot even begin to explain how amazing my job is going to be!

I can't say too much, but lets just say, I will be making all kinds of MAGIC!

I am so honored to be able to do what I do! Hopefully I will be able to share some of my stories with you all.  I heard some from our Guest Relations trainers and let me tell you, the water works were FLOWING!

I'm getting to work with a great group of people.  There are only 4 other Professional Interns at EPCOT, which surprised me.  But all 24 of the GR interns (from all the parks) are all great.  We have a good group and are gonna have a blast!

Here are all 24 of us!

And these are my fellow EPCOT peeps.

Saturday we'll get a tour of EPCOT and that's when I'll get my costume! (Yes, pictures will be posted!)

OH get excited because my roommate Suzanne and I did some major crafting on Sunday for the apartment and so my next post is going to be showcasing our craftiness! : )

I make MAGIC for living,
Kathleen

My New Life

Oh my goodness it has been entirely too long since I've blogged.  And for those of you who read this I know you've missed me terribly! :)

Ok so TONS has happened since that June 1st entry.

What has happened you ask? Well here goes:

1. Mom and I drove out to Florida! We made a stop in New Orleans which was fun (but not really my scene, if I'm being completely honest)  Oh and I had to get a whole new compressor for my AC, now that was fun...NOT!  But we had a good time anyway.

2. We made it ORLANDO! Yes, I am a Floridian! For now anyway.

3. We got my bed and all the living room furniture for a crazy good price! All I have to say is you gotta love Goodwill and friends who are moving!: )

4. Abby and Whitney came to Florida for a few days! We played in the Disney parks, we laughed, we cried, we might have argued just a tad, and of course we had a blast!

5. My new bedroom is coming together very nicely and I will post pictures of that AND the rest of the apartment soon.

6. CHECK IN day finally arrived for my internship AND I got my first official schedule for my new job! So excited for that! I start bright and early Monday morning! Not gonna lie, I'm might be more than a little nervous!  Wish me luck!

Everything in FL is going amazing so far! I love my new apartment, my new roommates, and just
my new life in general!

I'm going to try and be loads better about blogging.  I really enjoy it (even if no one really reads it! lol)

I have tons more free time (other than work of course) but no more tests to study/write, no more papers to write/grade, nada!

I LOVE IT!

I'll show y'all some fun pictures from the last two weeks soon!

Ta for now! :)

Happy June!

Ok Ladies and Gents its JUNE!

That means I have:
